As a followup to my recent posting about Linux From Scratch, here are my experiences with installing extra software from the Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS) book.

Quick summary: not worth the time for most people. As with LFS, the BLFS book is a well-written set of instructions. However I didn’t learn a whole lot (the book is not a tutorial), and can’t imagine using a BLFS-based system long-term.
